The skirt suit is a vivid memory from my childhood. The wardrobe of glamorous ladies, in every shade from fuchsia pink to black and white, with big buttons and even bigger shoulders. My mummy wore them all the time (that’s where I get my tendency to overdress from) and so I suppose this post is almost an ode to her. I remember the candy pink Yves Saint Laurent version which I wish she’d kept, and a shimmering pale blue one with crystal buttons that I just thought was so beautiful. If only she didn’t have a tendency to take things to the charity shop too…!
the wardrobe of glamorous ladies…
with big buttons and even bigger shoulders…
When I saw this gorgeous cream skirt suit with pearl buttons, I just had to have it. It felt vaguely Parisian and took me back to a different time, but somehow it feels very now paired with black boots, an oversized coat thrown over the shoulders and big sunglasses. I started spotting them all over the place and I thought it could be a nice idea for a style edit. It’s a great look for an event but it’s also versatile too. Wear it with a polo neck and flat boots during the day, try each piece separately – the jacket with jeans and the skirt with a knit, or go full 80s and pair the full set with sheer spotted tights, high sandals and some oversized crystal earrings.
