Memo:
Sitting in the Palmeraie area of Marrakech, Les Cinq Djellabas is a boutique hotel with just ten safari-style lodges set around a tranquil swimming pool. After waking up in a huge four poster bed, we checked out our suite – a relaxed lounge area with an open fireplace, and a large bathroom with a traditional roll-top bath, all sitting beneath a stunning wooden pitched roof… it was home sweet home! We swung open the doors to find bright sunshine, a balmy heat, and our butler setting up breakfast in the garden amongst the olive trees. We tucked into bowls of fruit, fresh yoghurt and my new obsession – m’smmen. These crispy, fluffy, layered Moroccan pancakes are a breakfast staple over there, and are delicious swirled with sweet local honey. We headed over to the pool in kaftans and bikinis and lay out in the sun, shaded by big straw hats, before taking a dip. After a lazy lunch, and an afternoon of catching up on Vogue, we headed to the hotel rooftop to check out the view at sunset – beautiful backlight palm trees as far as the eye could see… Les Cinq Djellabas is a beautiful little hotel, and a perfect oasis to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the Medina.
