Last week we got a little group together and made our pilgrimage to The River Cafe. It was the most beautiful evening with a fiery sunset so we started the night with prosecco and bellinis in the garden before heading inside for a delicious dinner. The River Cafe fits with my favourite type of restaurant "concept" (I'm sorry, I hate that word...) The menu is seasonal, ever-changing, and delicious, and the restaurant is pretty infamous with its impeccable reputation and impressive roster of former trainee chefs. (Theo Randall, April Bloomfield and Jamie Oliver all learnt the ropes at The River Cafe.) We piled the table high: mozzarella di bufala, Italian black fig and mint salad, Scottish scallops with zucchini fritti, vitello tonnato, Devon crab with Amalfi tomatoes, penne with slow-cooked longhorn beef, wild Scottish salmon with roasted peppers, and to finish...the ultimate and divine chocolate nemesis. After all that we still somehow managed to drag ourselves to 5 Hertford Street for more drinks before dancing in Loulou's until the early hours.
